Girls basketball roundup: New London gets first win

New London (1-7) 50, West Burlington (1-6) 48
New London grabbed it first win of the season on Friday after topping West Burlington.
The Tigers trailed 25-21 at the half, but went on to outscore the Falcons 29-23 in the second half to win it.
Mylee Miller finished with 17 points and seven rebounds for New London. Sophie Malott had 10 points, along with Olivia Hester. Morgan Jones pulled down 11 rebounds as well.
Columbus (7-1) 55, Winfield-Mt. Union (3-6) 20
Columbus continues its hot streak with its fifth win in a row after topping Winfield-Mt. Union on Friday.
The Wildcats outscored the Wolves 19-6, 10-4 and 19-0 in three straight quarters before WMU took the fourth 10-7.
Lily Coil led Columbus with 22 points and eight rebounds in the win. Ariana Vergara followed with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists. Aracely Garza had six points as well.
Winfield-Mt. Union was paced by Madisen Kellogg with eight points and 10 rebounds. Maggie Hutton ended with five points and Pacey Schlee finished with three points.
Highland (7-2) 37, Wapello (4-4) 28
Highland picked up win number seven on Friday with a victory over Wapello. The Huskies led big at the half, 29-11, but Wapello bounced back to cut it to seven after three 29-22.
Highland went on to edge Wapello in the fourth, 8-6, to seal it.
Sarah Burton led the way with 16 points and 13 boards. Katie Herrig followed with six points and seven rebounds. Kylie Allen tallied five points.
Mid-Prairie (6-2) 55, Durant (2-6) 42
Mid-Prairie was able to grab win number six on the season Friday night with a victory over Durant.
The Golden Hawks led 33-19 at the half. Durant took the second half 23-22, but the Golden Hawk lead was too great.
Callie Huber finished with a double double, scoring 16 points with 14 rebounds. Nora Pennington finished with 15 points and five assists. Brylee Gearhart ended with nine points.
WACO (4-4) 44, Hillcrest Academy (2-7) 38
Hillcrest Academy led WACO after one quarter on Friday, 14-10, but the Warriors went on to outscore the Ravens in each of the final three frames.
WACO took the second 13-9 to knot it up at the half 23-23 and then the Warriors won the third and fourth 21-15.
Emma Wagler finished with 16 points and nine rebound for WACO. Ella Huisenga tallied eight points and Naomi Egli had six.
For Hillcrest Academy, Malia Yoder ended with 13 points, Claire Withrow 10 and Lydia Beachy nine.
Lone Tree (9-1) 46, Pekin (3-5) 34
Pekin led Lone Tree after the first frame 8-6 on Friday, but the Lions went on to outscore the Panthers in the following three quarters, 14-11, 14-9 and 12-6.
English Valleys (7-2) 54, Highland (7-3) 50
Highland narrowly fell to English Valleys on Saturday.
The Huskies led 16-5 after one, but a 28-9 second quarter gave the Bears the lead at the half 33-25 and they would never lose it.
English Valleys led 45-36 after three and Highland’s 14-9 fourth quarter wasn’t enough.
Sarah Burton finished with 22 points. Kerra Longbine and Mackenzie Davis both ended with six.
No. 15 Holy Trinity Catholic (7-1) 68, Winfield-Mt. Union (3-7) 15
Holy Trinity Catholic held Winfield-Mt. Union to five points or less in all four quarters on Saturday.
The Crusaders outscored the Wolves 29-5, 25-5, 8-5 and 6-0 in each of the quarter frames.
Holy Trinity Catholic (6-1) 60, Van Buren County (1-6) 11
Holy Trinity Catholic was just too much for Van Buren County on Friday.
The Crusaders gave up just 10 points in the first half and one in the second against Van Buren County.
Marlee Mertens ended with four points. Shae Batten had three and Addison Brauns two.
Albia (3-5) 35, Cardinal (2-6) 27
Cardinal saw its first quarter lead dwindle in its loss to Albia on Friday.
The Comets led 12-4 after one quarter of action, but Albia went on to top Cardinal 30-15 through the final three periods.
No. 13 Lynnville-Sully (7-2) 59, Keota (1-7) 29
Keota couldn’t keep pace with the No. 13 ranked Hawks on Friday night.
Lynnville-Sully held the Eagles to single digits in all four quarters, 17-6, 18-8, 8-8 and 16-7.
Emily Conger led the Eagles with eight points. Grace Conger and Dakota Dodd both finished with five.
