Girls basketball roundup: Panthers, Demons fall

It was a busy night in girls basketball on Tuesday. The area’s small school slate had some big conference matchups, and both Mt. Pleasant and Washington were on the road.
The Panthers and Demons both dropped nonconference matches. Winfield-Mount Union picked up a big win, and Mid-Prairie and Keota both lost nail-biters.
Oskaloosa 62, Mt. Pleasant 41
Mt. Pleasant gave Oskaloosa three tough quarters in a nonconference road game, but the Indians caught fire in the fourth to put the Panthers away.
Oskaloosa led 13-11 after one quarter, 31-25 at halftime and 44-37 after three. The Indians exploded in the fourth, outscoring Mt. Pleasant 18-4 to run away with the game.
Andrea Lopreato put up 19 points to lead the Panthers. Kenna Lamm added 10.
Pella 66, Washington 18
Washington had its hands full on the road against a tough Pella squad. The Lady Dutch scored 25 points in the first quarter and never looked back.
Teh Demons trailed 25-6 after the first quarter, 34-10 at halftime and 56-14 after three periods. The entire fourth quarter was played under a running clock.
Winfield-Mount Union 75, Lone Tree 11
The Wolves simply dominated Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division rival Lone Tree. WMU rolled in every quarter, to move to 5-0 on the year.
WMU led 23-0 after one quarter, 45-2 at halftime and 59-7 after three quarters.
Keetyn Townsley led the way with 16 points. Bradie Buffington and Keely Malone each scored 14, and Melina Oepping had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Iowa City Regina 55, Mid-Prairie 46 (OT)
Mid-Prairie stormed back late to tie a River Valley Conference South Division match up against Iowa City Regina, but the Regals ran away with the game in overtime.
Amara Jones had 15 points to lead the Golden Hawks. Maddie Nonnenmann scored 13 points and Landry Pacha pulled down 16 rebounds.
Iowa Valley 42, Keota 39
The Eagles had an unbeaten Iowa Valley team on the ropes but couldn’t put them away in a South Iowa Cedar League matchup.
The Eagles had the Tigers reeling after one quarter, leading 13-4 at the first break. Iowa Valley outscored the Eagles 19-6 in the second to take a 23-19 lead into halftime, and held onto a 29-28 lead after three quarters.
Mediapolis 54, Highland 37
The Huskies couldn’t upset unbeaten Mediapolis in a SEISC North Division road game.
Highland was in it at the break, trailng just 28-24 at halftime, but Mediapolis star Hallie Mohr heated up, finishing with 22 points and 13 rebounds to knock off the Huskies.
Louisa-Muscatine 60, Hillcrest Academy 31
The Ravens had a tough task, suffering a SEISC North Division road loss at undefeated Louisa-Musactine.
Hillcrest trailed 21-6 after one, 35-13 at halftime and 50-18 after three. Falcon senior Kaylee Corbin scored 32.
Wapello 46, Pekin 29
The Panthers failed to pick up their first win of the year, falling in a SEISC North showdown.
Wapello led 16-5 after one quarter, 26-13 at halftime and 35-15 at the third quarter break.
Holy Trinity 51, Van Buren County 28
A 13-2 first quarter deficit spelled doom for the Warriors, who dropped their fifth game in a row in an SEISC South showdown.
Shea Scott acored 12 points to lead the Warriors in a loss. Kadence Nusbaum added six points. Annabellle Cormier chipped in four.
