Girls basketball roundup: WACO, WMU end 2022 with win

WACO 61, Lone Tree 35
WACO heads into 2023 with a win.
The Warriors led the Lions 12-7 after one and 22-18 at the half, but pulled away in the second with a 18-12 quarter and 21-5 fourth period.
Ellah Kissell ended with 22 points for WACO. Grace Coble followed with 17 and Katie Leichty added nine.
Winfield-Mt. Union 57, Highland 23
Winfield-Mt. Union stayed undefeated with the victory over Highland Tuesday.
The Wolves made a statement early leading 18-0 after the first and never looked back.
WMU would outscore the Huskies 16-9, 10-8 and 13-6 the rest of the way out.
Kerra Longbine led Highland with six points. Katelyn Waters finished with five and Sarah Burton four.
Danville 60, Cardinal 45
Cardinal wasn’t able to top Danville on Tuesday, marking the Comets seventh loss on the season.
Central Lee 68, Columbus 32
A slow start did Columbus in on Tuesday night.
The Hawks outscored the Wildcats 23-8 in the first and 18-13 in the second to lead 41-21 at the half. A slow start in the second with a 15-2 quarter, pushed Central Lee’s lead to 56-23 into the fourth and they would seal it with a 12-9 final quarter.
Sara Vela led Columbus with 10 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. Ariana Vergara added eight and Frannie Sosa followed with five.
Louisa-Muscatine 41, Pekin 31
Pekin suffered its seventh loss of the season on Tuesday night after falling short to Louisa-Muscatine.
Wapello 46, Hillcrest Academy 13
The Ravens were held to single digits in all four quarter Tuesday night against Wapello.
The Arrows outscored the Ravens 17-3, 8-5, 11-5 and 10-0.
Hillcrest is still searching for its first win of the season.
