Girls basketball roundup: WMU, Columbus grab wins

Winfield-Mt. Union (6-0) 46, WACO (2-2) 39
WMU and WACO did battle on Tuesday night in Winfield.
After a tight first half which saw the WACO lead 27-26 by the end, WMU turned it up a notch on in the second half.
WMU outscored the Warriors 20-12 in the second half to stay undefeated.
For WACO, Katie Leichty and Ellah Kissell each finished with 15 points.
Columbus (4-2) 42, Pekin (0-5) 30
Pekin led Columbus for two quarters on Tuesday night, but the Wildcats put together a dominant third and fourth to win it.
Pekin led 12-9 and 19-14 after the first, but Columbus won the third 15-6 and the fourth 13-5 to win it.
Sara Vela led Columbus with 18 points and seven rebounds. Ariana Vergara added 11 points. Victoria Howell followed with seven and Frannie Sosa six.
West Burlington (3-1) 51, Van Buren County (1-2) 17
Van Buren County was held to single digits in each of the fourth quarters against West Burlington.
West Burlington won the first 18-3, the second 13-3, third 12-4 and fourth 8-7.
Ivy Davison led the Warriors with seven points and nine rebounds. Annabelle Cormier ended with five. Sophia Jirak had three and Callie Kracht two.
Louisa-Muscatine (2-3) 41, Highland (2-3) 35
Highland came up just short against Louisa-Muscatine on Tuesday.
The Huskies trailed by just two after one, 12-10, but a four point quarter by Highland in the second put them down more as the Falcons scored 11. Louisa-Muscatine took the third 12-10 for a 35-24 fourth quarter lead.
Highland would win the fourth 11-6, but it wasn’t enough.
Sarah Burton scored 22 points for the Huskies. Kylie Allen and Jessica Kraus each had five.
West Liberty (2-2) 55, Mid-Prairie (2-3) 50
Mid-Prairie lead 16-15 and 31-28 after each of the first two quarters on Tuesday against West Liberty.
The Comets turned it on in the third and fourth though winning each quarter 14-8 and 13-11 to take a five point victory.
Amara Jones finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Golden Hawks. Kylie Reinier and Landry Pacha each added eight.
Danville (1-3) 57, New London (0-7) 19
New London was held to just eight points in the first half, while Danville went on to score 43 in the opening half of Tuesday night battle.
Danville would take the third and fourth as well, 8-7 and 6-4.
Natalie Burden ended with seven points for the Tigers. Emma Nye had four. Lillie Gallup, Morgan Jones, Sophie Malott and Mylee Miller each had two.
Iowa Valley (6-1) 44, Keota (1-5) 40
Iowa Valley jumped out to a 10 point lead after an 18-8 first quarter in Tuesday’s contest.
The Eagles bounced back in the second, third and fourth taking each quarter 15-12, 7-6 and 10-8.
While Keota nearly made a comeback, they weren’t able to complete it as it ran out of time.
Lone Tree (5-2) 41, Hillcrest Academy (0-5) 24
