Girls basketball roundup: Wolves vanquish Falcons
Winfield-Mount Union holds off Louisa-Muscatine for big North Division win

Tuesday night was rough for most of the Union area girls basketball teams, but one team was able to pull off a win. Winfield-Mount Union slipped past Louisa-Muscatine for a major conference win.
Winfield-Mount Union 37, Louisa-Muscatine 32
The Wolves clinched second place in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division with a five-point win over Louisa-Muscatine.
Bradie Buffington had another strong game, going for 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Anna Anderson scored nine points, going 3-for-3 from 3-point range.
Lone Tree 53, Columbus 35
The Wildcats couldn’t win a quarter in an SEISC North road game.
Freshman Frannie Sosa scored 10 points to lead Columbus in the loss. Sera Vela chipped in eight.
Central Lee 67, New London 26
The Tigers couldn’t overcome a red-hot start for the hosting Hawks.
Central Lee led 23-5 after one quarter, 33-12 at half and 59-18 after three periods.
Danville 62, WACO 32
After falling to the Bears by just three points a couple of days earlier, the Warriors had a rough one in a SEISC South road game.
Danville led 13-6 after one quarter and 30-15 at halftime. WACO cut the lead to 13, at 41-28, after three periods, but the Bears dominated the final eight minutes.
West Burlington 57, Cardinal 33
The Comets couldn’t hang with a tough West Burlington team, falling by 24 in a South Division road matchup.
Wilton 67, Mid-Prairie 36
Wilton enacted revenge on the Golden Hawks for a five-point Mid-Prairie win earlier this season. The Beavers led 16-12 after one quarter, and then dominated the last three periods.
Maddie Nonnenmann scored 14 points to lead the Golden Hawks. Nora Pennington added nine. Amara Jones finished with six points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
English Valleys 57, Keota 30
The Eagles fell to the second-place team in the South Iowa Cedar League standings.
Keota trailed 13-6 after one quarter, 24-12 at halftime and 37-19 after three periods.
