The Washington High School girls won a triangular with Mid-Prairie and Columbus Tuesday at the Kalona Golf Course while the Mid-Prairie boys edged Washington 172-174. Columbus scored 224. The Demon boys finished second in a triangular Monday at Mt. Pleasant.
Washington's total was 180, Mid-Prairie 197 and Columbus 220.
For Columbus, Aubrey Duncan shot a 51, Kayla Beenen 54, Jobie Lekwa 58, Gracie Morrison 57 and Atlie Hand 90.
For Mid-Prairie, Abby Patterson scored 52, Emma Mattes 49, Abby Statler 44, Georgia Nisley 52 and Kendra Schafer 58.
The Demons' Thursday meet with Burlington is canceled due to them deciding not to come so the next competition is Monday hosting Ottumwa.
Washington's Kiki Guo was the medalist of the with a 1-over-par 37 and Josie Tanner's 41 was runner-up. Emily Waite carded a 49, Carly Burlingame 53, Madison Fishback 66 and Macy Driscoll 67.
'Kiki did an outstanding job,” WHS coach Len Kull said. 'She had a double bogey, a birdie and the rest pars. She hit well off the tee, but she was not happy with her chipping and putting. That will come with practice. Josie had a couple bogeys and some pars. She wants to work on her short game, but that's true of all of them. Emily broke 50 for the first time, so she was very pleased. She really rebounded well after she had a high score on a hole. She should be proud. She has really battled and made great progress. Madison and Macy are brand new and working very hard. They have a positive attitude which is very important in golf. I saw both of them making some good shots, they just need more of them. When you have a team score in the 180s, it demonstrates a lot of potential.”
For Columbus boys, Evan Rees had 60, Tucker Bright 49, Gustavo Anaya 57 and Robert Coil 58.
Noah Schlabaugh had a 39 while MP teammates Ryan Smit scored 43, Monte Slabaugh 45 and Chaz Peterson 45.
Mid-Prairie has not lost a boys meet yet.
Brock Sobaski was the meet medalist for Washington with a 37 and Brady Knutson was runner-up with a 38. Caleb Tanner had a 48 and John Prohaska 51.
For the boys, coach Collin Stark was happy with the second meet of the season Monday.
'We scored the same score as the first meet, having four scores in the 40s,” he said. 'A couple of our guys struggled to score where they usually are at. We will continue to work to improve each shot and take it one stroke at a time.”
Mt. Pleasant fired a 156 and Keokuk 225. Washington's total of 180 was composed of Sobaski's 40, Mitchell Driscoll's 44, Knutson's 48 and Tanner's 48.
