After dropping its first meet in nearly two years, the Washington girls? golf team got back in rhythm in style on Thursday night.
The Demons took third in a home triangular with Mt. Pleasant and Fairfield on Monday, but rebounded by winning its home meet over Keokuk and Fairfield Thursday, carding a 174 as a team, to win the meet by 19 strokes.
?(After Monday), they said, ?coach, it seems to us that we had a bad day all at once,?? Washington head coach Leonard Kull said. ??We aren?t worried about it or concerned. We are going to go to work, but this was an aberration.? I said, ?Fair enough, let?s go to work.? We haven?t eliminated all the big numbers completely yet, but we are getting better.?
The Demons also had the top two individual scorers at the meet, with Sarah Nacos shooting a one-under 35 to win meet medalist honors.
Deanna Peiffer carded a 39 for runner-up honors, ahead of Fairfield?s Lindsey Repp, who scored a 42.
Megan Strabala came in third for the Demons, notching a 49, while Allison Vogel was the final counting score for Washington, with a 51.
?I?m really impressed with Sarah and Deanna,? Kull said. ?My goodness, those two numbers are amazing. The other important thing was that (Allison Vogel and Megan Strabala) maintained their average. If they can shoot like that, we?ll be fine.?
Brenna Burlingame notched a 62, while Carly Burlingame shot a 77 for Washington.
The Demons will look to get a tournament at Central Lee in on Saturday if the weather holds up.
