FARMINGTON ? Van Buren continued its run through the SEISC south with a 44-29 victory over Harmony (6-12, 4-11 SEISC south) Saturday to set up tonight?s showdown with West Burlington.
The makeup game at West Burlington can give the Warriors (18-1, 14-1) an outright conference title while a loss will end the season with a first-place tie.
Makenzie Zeitler had 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals in the win Saturday while Hannah Haynes added eight points, eight boards and six steals. Kassie Myers and Jessica Saunders scored seven apiece for the Warriors.
Tonight?s contest at West Burlington is slated to begin at 6 p.m. Van Buren won the first meeting 49-41 Dec. 21 in Keosauqua. The Falcons? other conference loss this season came in the season opener at Central Lee ? the same team that handed the Warriors its lone loss.
West Burlington 61, Pekin 37
WEST BURLINGTON ? Pekin suffered through a poor shooting night and the SEISC shootout turned sour as West Burlington rolled to a 61-37 win Friday night.
The Panthers (13-6, 12-4) managed just nine points in the first half and the Falcons (15-2, 12-2) put the second-place matchup away early.
?It was a game where our shooting was definitely off,? said Pekin head coach Davis Eidahl. ?Shooting 2-for-16 in the first quarter and 24 percent for the game, will not make things go well.?
Jessi Martin came up with 11 points to lead the Panthers, Leslie Stone had six points and five rebounds and Brandy Millikin chipped in five points and six rebounds.
Pekin will next play a makeup game at Highland tonight.
Cardinal 44, Central Lee 41
ELDON ? The Cardinal girls? basketball team avenged a loss from earlier this season and squeaked out a 44-41 victory over Central Lee Saturday night.
The result knocks the Hawks (14-5, 12-3 SEISC south) out of second place in the conference standings. Cardinal (11-8, 10-5) remains in fourth.
Cory Campbell led the Comets with 14 points, five steals and seven rebounds while Sam Nickel posted 13 points and two blocks. The backcourt of Lindsay Moore, Leah McCarroll and Liz Nichols combined for 13 assists in the game as Moore scored eight.
