Mid-Prairie falls to ranked foe
The Class 3A, No. 15 ranked Mid-Prairie girls? basketball team took on another ranked opponent on Friday, but fell to Class 3A, No. 9 ranked Monticello, 54-40.
The Hawks were hanging tight with Monticello throughout the first three quarters, trailing by one going into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Monticello found another gear and pushed themselves to a 25-point quarter and the victory.
Ireland Hostetler led the team with 13 points (6-of-8 shooting), nine rebounds and two blocks in the contest, but she was the only Hawk to hit double figure scoring on the night.
Senior Alex Rath notched eight points, while four other Hawks picked up four points apiece in the game.
The Hawks are now 8-6 on the season, and are 1-6 against ranked teams so far this season, and have lost three of their last four games.
Mid-Prairie will look to right the ship when they travel to Wilton on Tuesday night.
Pekin runs out Highland
The No. 3 ranked team in Class 2A was too much for Highland?s girls? basketball team to handle on Friday night.
Pekin Started off the game hot, and never cooled off, cruising to the 67-39 victory over the Huskies, who fell to 13-4 on the season.
Senior Cheyann Adamson led the team with 13 points, while Kelsey Hora notched 11 points in the loss.
Freshman Aly Stokes was limited by the Panthers, being held to three points, despite grabbing 13 rebounds.
The Huskies will look to rebound against Lone Tree on Tuesday night.
Columbus holds off IMS
Iowa Mennonite was searching for its first win of the season on Friday night, but Columbus held off a late run to pick up a 42-36 victory.
IMS outscored Columbus in the fourth quarter, 13-9, but a slow second and third quarter which saw IMS limited to 12 points proved to be the difference.
Columbus was led by a trio of double-digit scorers in the win, with sophomore Maki Mendenhall leading the team with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Shania Boyd had 14 points for the Wildcats, while Kortney Orr picked up 11 points and five assists.
IMS was led by Suzanna Yoder?s 16 points and three assists in the loss, while Rachel Miller notched 12 for IMS in the game, including a pair of 3-pointers.
IMS went to Danville on Saturday, but suffered a 35-15 loss. They were led by Calli Shaw?s seven points in the game.
Columbus moved to 5-10 with the win, while IMS fell to 0-14 after the pair of losses.
The Wildcats will travel to Wapello on Tuesday night, while IMS faces Louisa-Muscatine.
