SEISC North parity continues in full night of conference basketball

It was a busy night for the area girls basketball teams on Tuesday night.
The Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division continued its exciting start to the year with three of the four league games being decided by single digits. Van Buren County won two games and Mid-Prairie rolled.
Highland 60, Hillcrest Academy 40
The Huskies moved to 4-0 on the season after a big SEISC North victory over Hillcrest Academy.
Highland freshman Kamryn Fink hit five 3-pointers en route to a 19-point performance. Hailey Brun finished with 15 points. Makenzie Davis had 12, and Emersyn Schultz scored 10, to give the Huskies four double-digit scorers.
Columbus 44, No. 10 (1A) Lone Tree 37
One week after Highland knocked off 10th-ranked Lone Tree, Columbus did the same thing, going 2-0 in North Division play.
Lily Coil scored 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Columbus. Ariana Vergara and Isabel Rendon each scored nine points. Frannie Sosa and Aracely Garza each scored six.
Pekin 49, Wapello 42
The Panthers led 19-12 after one quarter, 29-23 at halftime and 35-25 after three quarters to earn an SEISC North win.
Pekin is now 1-1 in the conference after falling to Winfield-Mount Union last week.
Holy Trinity Catholic 43, WACO 37 (Monday)
The Warriors battled in a SEISC crossover game, crawling back from down 36-25 after three quarters.
Brenna Graber led the Warriors with 14 points. Ella Huisenga had 13.
West Burlington 56, New London 20
The Tigers had a tough time holding back West Burlington, falling in their first SEISC South game of the season.
Van Buren County 55, Cardinal 51 (Monday)
Cardinal led 42-32 after three quarters, but Van Buren County came storming back, scoring 23 points in the fourth quarter to win by four.
VBC’s Addison Brauns went for 18 points and eight rebounds. Callie Kracht and Sophia Jirak each scored 11 points.
Cardinal’s Kolbi Saner scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Olivia VanTrump scored 12 points, and Alexis Bissell finished with 11.
Van Buren County 46, Notre Dame 40
Van Buren County won by two possessions twice in two nights, beating Notre Dame in SEISC South play.
Brauns had a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Kracht scored 14 points, and Jirak finished with 13.
Keota 51, Louisa-Muscatine 41 (Monday)
The Eagles battled back from a 26-19 halftime deficit to beat the Falcons in non-conference play.
Emily Conger scored 10 points for the Eagles. Cameron Haifley and Kennedy Jackson each scored nine points, and Grace Conger went for seven point, seven steals and six rebounds.
Sigourney 60, Keota 41
The Eagles couldn’t keep it going with a Southeast Iowa Cedar League West Division battle on Tuesday night.
Keota was down just six points, at 25-19, when halftime hit. Sigourney controlled the final two quarters.
Mid-Prairie 59, Benton 29
The Golden Hawks trailed 10-8 after one quarter but outscored Benton 21-1 in the second to take a 29-11 lead at the break. Mid-Prairie never looked back after halftime.
Tessa Bombei scored 12 points to lead Mid-Prairie. Morgyn Bendr had 10 points, and Brooklyn Schneider had nine.
