Girls roundup: Van Buren, WMU continue winning ways
Warriors and Wolves continue to show out

Union area teams turned in stellar performances on Friday and Saturday as many teams continue to stay hot as the postseason approaches.
Winfield-Mt. Union 62, Wapello 25
The Wolves had no problem in their matchup with Wapello.
Winfield poured in 37 points in the first half and 25 in the second to drop the Arrows on the road.
Bradie Buffington paced the Wolves with 13 points and six rebounds. Melina Oepping followed with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Mid-Prairie 52, Bellevue 45
The Golden Hawks found themselves down 29-23 after two quarters of play, but a stellar second half helped Mid-Prairie pull out a win.
Mid-Prairie outscored Bellevue 16-12 in the third, but still trailed 41-39 heading into the fourth. The Golden Hawks got the win with a 13-4 fourth.
Maddie Nonnenmann continues to impress. She finished with a game-high 19 points. Amara Jones added 13.
Keota 37, Tri-County 30
The Eagles hit their stride in the fourth against the Trojans to pull out a South Iowa Cedar win.
Neither team had a double digit quarter until the fourth. Keota held a 22-21 lead after three, but used a 15-9 fourth quarter to pull away for a win.
Macie McDonald led Keota with 18 points. Taylor Kindred chipped in eight.
Van Buren County 33, Cardinal 20
Van Buren County only trailed after one quarter in the matchup with Cardinal.
Cardinal led 7-5 after one, but trailed the rest of the way. The Warriors held a 14-10 lead at the break, and a 26-16 lead after three. A 7-4 fourth by Van Buren cemented the win.
Emma Becker led the Comets with seven points and four assists. Kinsey Hissem added five points and nine rebounds.
Van Buren County 42, Clark County, MO 41 (Saturday)
Van Buren County got its fifth win in the last six game with the win over Clark County.
The Warriors held a 24-11 lead at the half, but the Indians stormed back with a 16-8 run in the third to make it a 32-27 ball game heading into the fourth. Van Buren was able to hang on for the win.
Highland 64, Columbus 35
Highland controlled every facet of the game against Columbus. The Huskies held the Wildcats to single digits in three of the four quarters.
The Huskies outscored the Wildcats 14-9, 21-6, 18-9, and tied 11-11 in the fourth to grab a Super Conference win.
Sarah Burton nearly had a perfect shooting night connecting on 10 of 11 from the field for 21 points, while pulling down seven rebounds. Dani Laughlin followed with 16 points and five assists.
Lily Coil finished with eight points and 10 rebounds for Columbus. Frannie Sosa also scored eight points.
Pekin 54, Hillcrest Academy 26
Pekin put up a dominating performance on Friday, dropping Super Conference North foe Hillcrest Academy.
The Panthers held a 22-4 lead after one half of play and built a 37-9 lead after three. Pekin came out on top in the fourth, outscoring Hillcrest 15-13.
Kerrigan Pope notched herself a double-double for the Panthers, pouring in 33 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.
Esther Hughes scored 14 for the Ravens.
Danville 54, New London 41
New London was slow out of the gates in the contest with Danville.
The Tigers found themselves down 28-16 after the first half. They turned it around in the third with a 15-12 quarter, making it a nine point game, 40-31. Danville was able to stave the Tigers with a 14-10 fourth.
Natalie Burden paced the Tigers with 12 and Sophie Malott added nine.
Chariton 45, Cardinal 17 (Saturday)
The Comets struggled on both ends of the ball against the Chargers. Cardinal was held under 10 in each quarter.
Cardinal was outscored 31-7 in the first half and 14-10 in the second.
West Burlington 48, WACO 30
WACO struggled to get going offensively in its matchup against West Burlington.
The Warriors scored just 10 points in the first half to the Falcons 28. WACO bounced back with a 16-6 third to make it 34-26, but a 14-4 fourth sealed the Warriors defeat.
Danville 51, WACO 48
The Warriors were in the mix all night against the Bears, but Danville was able to squeak by, handing WACO its third straight loss.
WACO held a 14-13 lead after one, but a big second put Danville up 31-24. WACO cut the lead to four following the third, 38-34. The Warriors couldn’t get over the hump in the fourth and Danville hung on.
