Girls roundup: Wolves, Panthers victorious
Winfield-Mt. Union and Pekin both picked up win on Monday night

The Wolves and Huskies were in a battle for a half on Monday night. Winfield-Mt. Union led 16-10 after one and by halftime that lead dwindled to just three, 25-22, following a 12-9 second by the Huskies.
In the third, the Wolves found their stride. They pulled away with a 20-10 quarter, increasing their lead to 13, 45-32, heading into the fourth. In the fourth, both teams had their lowest scoring output, but it was the Wolves coming out on top with a 6-4 quarter.
Keetyn Townsley led a balanced scoring attack for the Wolves, finishing with 14 points and four assists. Bradie Buffington scored 12 and pulled down six rebounds. Jobey Malone added 11 with five rebounds and five assists.
The Wolves move to 13-2, while the Huskies drop to 6-8.
Pekin 61, Lone Tree 40
Pekin picked up a dominant 21 point victory over the Lions on Monday night. The Panthers controlled for the majority of the contest.
At the half, Pekin held a 34-21 lead. The Panther’s Kerrigan Pope scored 16 points in the second quarter to help increase the lead. Pekin never looked back, pulling away in the second for the win.
Pope paced the Panthers with 23 points. Pekin improves to 4-8 on the season.
