Girls weekend wrestling roundup: Mid-Prairie earns team title

Grayhound Girl’s Wrestling Invitational
Cardinal, Mt. Pleasant and Washington each battled it out in Burlington’s Grayhound Girl’s Wrestling Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The area squads were led by Cardinal, who finished fifth with 123 points. Mt. Pleasant followed in sixth with 75 points, while Washington placed ninth with 64 points.
Cardinal had a trio of second-place finishers as Bryleigh Sparks (125), Autumn Sertterh (130) and Macy Grove (140) all were runners-up. Paislee Kern (125) finished fourth.
Mt. Pleasant’s Zenlynn Lee (145) was a winner, while Olivia Gordy (235) and Quintrie Lee (110) each placed third.
Meanwhile, Washington was led by Peggy Miller (145) in second. Ryha Wellington (140) and Nora Stoutner (130) were each bronze finishers. Allison Reed (120) ended in seventh.
Wilton Women’s Wrestling Tournament
Mid-Prairie, Columbus, Fairfield and Sigourney-Keota all competed at the Wilton Women’s Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.
Mid-Prairie were the team champions after posting 182 points. Columbus finished seventh with 94 points, Fairfield ninth with 74.4 points and Sigourney-Keota 12th with 63 points.
Ashlee Farrier (130) was the only Golden Hawk to place first; however, Ruby Miller (110), Emmerson Moore (135), Layken Lee (140) and Ellie Callahan (170) all placed third.
For Columbus, Josie Nelson (145) was a first-place finisher. Jada Moats (190) placed third. Maritza Tovar (110) and Jada Moats (190) both finished fourth overall for the Wildcats.
Fairfield had a pair of second-place finishers in Alyia Abbott (110) and Samantha Lyons (170). Kendra Allison (235) placed fifth, while Haley Ulin (140) and June Connor (105) took sixth.
For Sigourney-Keota, Reanah Utterback (115) was a winner. Kia Montogmery (130) took second. Madison Clarahan (190) placed fourth and Izzy McCullough finished fifth.
BGM Girls Tournament 2024
Pekin, WACO and Highland were the three Union area squads to particiapte in the 2024 BGM Girls Tournament.
Pekin had a great day on the mat, finishing second with 115.5 points. WACO placed 12th with 53 points and Highland ended up in 14th with 34 points.
Hailey Pedrick (140) was the Panthers lone winner on the day. Pekin also had two second-place finishers in Lexa Nelson (110) and Rylee Frye (235). Ella Rose (145) and Lila Miller (135) took fourth.
For WACO, Elyssa Graber (105) took first overall. Addison Alliman (100) and Rylee Rice (110) both finished third. Sarah Craun (125) in fifth.
