Girls wrestlers battle in Keokuk

KEOKUK — Four area girls wrestling teams went at it in Keokuk on Saturday, as the Chiefs held their home girls invite.
Mt. Pleasant led the Union area with a fourth-place team finish. The Panthers put up 90 points. Van Buren County was fifth, with 63. Washington ended up sixth, with 54.5 points, and Fairfield scored 44 points, for 9th.
Mt. Pleasant's Olivia Gordy won her bracket, going unbeaten at 235 pounds. Gordy finished the tournament 4-1, with a loss to Fairfield's Kendra Allison, but four pins helped Gordy bring home the title.
The Panthers had a second-place finisher out of Zenlynn Lee. Lee finished second in the 145-pound bracket, going 2-1.
Katana Phangchangthon also took second place, scoring the silver medal at 120 pounds. Phangchanthong went 3-2 with three pins.
Van Buren County's Jacqueline Singer took second place at 100 pounds. Singer went 2-2 on the day, picking up a pair of pins.
Eleanor Shin finished second at 130 for the Warriors. Shin went 4-1 with three pins.
Washington had one champion on the day. Peggy Miller won the 145-pound bracket, scoring a pin in the semifinals before beating Lee of Mt. Pleasant 9-4 in the championship match.
The Demons didn't have any other Top-2 finishers. Nora Soutner and Ryha Wellington both finished third.
Fairfield's Samantha Lyons took second place at 170 pounds. Lyons had two pins on the day and fell just once.
The Trojans didn't have any other Top-2 finishers. Alyvia Abbott did finish third, at 115.
