FORT MADISON — Five area girls wrestling teams were in Fort Madison on Monday night for the Bloodhounds’ home tournament, an early clash of some of Southeast Iowa’s best on the mats.
The tournament was won by the hosting Bloodhounds, who scored 195 points to down second-place Ottumwa by a full 50 points.
The top teams in the Union coverage area were Cardinal and Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union. The Comets finished fifth place, with 108 points, and the Wildcats ended the night with 93 points, for sixth.
Cardinal showed its depth, getting four girls into the Top-3 in their brackets, all taking third place.

Columbus/WMU had one winner on the night. Fresh out of last season’s girls state basketball tournament with WMU, Josie Nelson came in and dominated the 140-pound bracket. She pinned three opponents in a combined 72 seconds, including a championship victory over Kat Diprima of Fort Madison.
Columbus/WMU 145-pounder Dakota Storm finished third on the night. Storm had three pins in her final three matches.
