Girls wrestling roundup: Panthers, Golden Hawks crown winners

Union area high school girls wrestling teams were in action over the weekend. A plethora of those teams and individuals had some great outings with winners being crowned.
Mt. Pleasant, Fairfield and Mid-Prairie all took part in the Wilton Women’s Tournament on Saturday.
The Panthers had a nice showing in the tournament as they finished with a pair of first-place finishers.
Zenlynn Lee took first overall at 190, winning three straight after an opening round loss. Natalie Albright was a first-place finisher at 235 with three straight pins.
Mt. Pleasant had three other wrestlers compete.
Ella McNamee finished third at 105. Natalie Parrott took fifth at 120 and Alexis Wagner wrestled as well at 115.
For Fairfield, Alyia Abbott and Jaydin Sharfe were both fourth-place finishers, Abbott at 105 and Sharfe at 120.
Arwyd Hays ended with a sixth-place finish at 155 as well for the Trojans.
Mid-Prairie had eight wrestlers compete in the tournament.
Gabi Robertson (100), Ellie Brenneman (135) and Mia Garvey (155) were all first-place finishers for the Golden Hawks.
Also for Mid-Prairie, Marissa Cline and Grace Conway were second-place finishers at 135 and 140.
Sam Stacey and Ashlee Farrier were the Golden Hawks third-place finishers at 235 and 130. Kenda Shqair took sixth at 120 as well.
Other area teams competing over the weekend include Cardinal, Pekin and WACO at the Chariton Girls Wrestling Invitational.
Cardinal’s highest finisher of the competition was Ajaah Cox who place first at 155.
Macy Grove took fourth at 130. Skyllar Welch (170) and Shakayla Uehling (235) both took six. Chloe Goodman placed seventh at 120. Reagan Vaughn wrestled at 170 as well.
For WACO, Grace Fort was a first-place finisher at 190. Bralyyn Wagler took first as well at 235.
Rylee Rice was a second-place finisher at 115. Heaven Steege was third at 125. Destiny Boone finished fourth at 170. Emma Szewczyk wrestled as well at 170.
Pekin’s highest finisher of the weekend was Hailey Pedrick with a second-place finish at 135. Rainee Greiner (135) took third. Lila Miller (140) and Lexa Nelson (110) both finished fourth. Payten Coleman finished sixth at 125.
Highland and Columbus/WMU all competed at the Prairie Winter Classic.
Highland’s Abbie Grout and Lilly Barre’s were both second-place finishers. Mackenzie McFarland and Angelina Roling both finished fourth.
For Columbus/WMU, Audrey Hoback and Dakota Storm both took second. Yalee Miranda finished third. Quinn Smith finished fifth and Miriam Ruvalcaba ended in sixth.
