Southeast Iowa Union offers audio versions of articles using Instaread. Some words may be mispronounced.
At this point, it should be no surprise that Southeast Iowa girls cross-country is some of the best in the business.
Another year has come and gone, and once again the state meet was filled with area runners, and that means the 2025 All-Union girls cross-country team is filled with state-quality competitors.
Listed below is an elite class of area runners who proved their worth both in the regular season and the postseason of the 2025 girls’ cross-country season.
Coach: Lucinda DeHart, Van Buren County
Although All-Union teams are split into a coach for both the boys’ and girls’ teams, Van Buren County’s Lucinda DeHart must be recognized for what she did as a co-ed coach this season.
Van Buren County was the only Union area team to qualify both its boys and girls teams to the state meet in Ft. Dodge. The girls' team, which also won the Southeast Iowa Super Conference championship took seventh in the Class 1A team race, while the boys finished seventh.
DeHart’s Warriors took step after step this season to ensure one of the greatest seasons in the history of the school’s cross-country program.
Captain: Chloe Glosser, senior, Pekin
It’s a pretty easy decision for captain when a runner does what Chloe Glosser did this season.
Glosser polished off her fantastic career at Pekin by winning the SEISC cross-country title one final time, dominating the state qualifier and finishing Top-2 in the Class 1A race.
Glosser’s final state time of 18 minutes, 33.6 seconds put her into second place for the first time ever and ensuring she finished her career with yet another milestone achievement.
Brooklyn Stutzman, junior, Mid-Prairie
Only three Union area runners made it to the well sought-after podium on the deck in Ft. Dodge over state weekend, and Stutzman was cross-country power Mid-Prairie’s lone representative.
Leading her team to a ninth place finish in Class 2A, Stutzman finished seventh individually, crossing the tape in 19:20.1, a solid mark for what should be one of the favorites in the area again next season.
Avery Fedler, freshman, Mt. Pleasant
It’s not hard to figure out who the area’s breakout star was in girls cross-country this season.
Fedler ran strong in one of Iowa’s tougher regions despite being one of the youngest in the field. The Panther freshman took gold in her first Southeast Conference championship, and won her Class 3A state qualifier.
At state, Fedler missed out on the podium by nine spots, taking 24th overall, in 19:22.5.
Iris Dahl, senior, Washington
One of the major faces for Washington cross-country for the last four years has been Demon senior Iris Dahl.
Dahl, who has gotten a reputation for running her best in the bigger meets, had to miss out on the SEC championships because of an injury, but she returned ready to close out her final season the right way.
After qualifying for state one final time, she once again outdid her ranking at Ft. Dodge, taking 20th place overall, in 19:16.8.
Josie Dykstra, sophomore, WACO
It’s no secret that WACO cross-country is on the up-and-up, and the girls’ side has a lot of big things to look forward to in the near future.
One of those big things is the rise of sophomore Josie Dykstra, who took second in the SEISC race, qualified for state and finished 21st in Class 1A, crossing the tape in 19:54.7.
Marie Yoder, junior, Hillcrest Academy
Hillcrest Academy’s star junior has been one of the best runners in the area since she stepped into high school, and that didn’t change this season.
Yoder battled near the top at a stacked SEISC race, taking fourth place overall, qualified for state at the qualifier in Ottumwa, and put together a 40th-place finish, crossing in 20:36.3.
Siena Stanerson, senior, Hillcrest Academy
Hillcrest’s senior leader got better and better as this season went on, so it makes sense that she would have one of the strongest finishes to the season in all of Southeast Iowa.
After taking sixth in the SEISC meet, and then narrowly getting through in the state qualifier, Stanerson rocked her state meet appearance, finishing 22nd place in 19:58.5, her best ever finish in Ft. Dodge.
