The Mid-Prairie seventh-grade football team rolled to a 44-8 win over visiting West Branch on Oct. 9.
On the Golden Hawks? second possession of the game, quarterback Karson Gingerich kept the ball on an option play and raced 54 yards for the first score of the contest. Mid-Prairie would add three more scores before halftime to push its lead to 30-0. The touchdowns came on a 30-yard run by Keaton Duwa, a 20-yard run by Terryhn Jacoby and a 38-yard run by Marshall Teets. Fullback Bricen Miller also got into the scoring mix as well, pounding in a two-point conversion.
Mid-Prairie?s defense was stout in the first half, not allowing a first down and forcing turnovers on a fumble recovered by Stephen Miller and a Collin Gingerich interception.
On the Golden Hawks? first possession of the second half, Jacoby rumbled 38 yards up the middle for his second score of the game. Teets later added his second touchdown, out-running the Bears? defense 39 yards to the end zone to push Mid-Prairie?s lead to 44-0.
The Mid-Prairie defense, led by Cary Scheafer?s seven tackles, did not allow a touchdown ? or even a first down ? until late in the fourth quarter.
With the win, Mid-Prairie improved to 4-1 on the year. The Golden Hawks wrap up their season tonight when they travel to Iowa City Regina.
