After a week off, the Mid-Prairie seventh-grade football team showed no signs of rust in a 24-0 win over visiting Tipton on Oct. 2.
The Golden Hawks scored on the game?s opening possession when Keaton Duwa took a handoff and eluded several Tiger defenders during a 41-yard touchdown run. Running back Marshall Teets added the two-point conversion to put Mid-Prairie up 8-0.
Karson Gingerich made a leaping interception to get the ball right back for the Golden Hawks, who marched right down the field to score again. Fullback Terrhyn Jacoby rumbled into the end zone from two yards out, and Gingerich added the two-point conversion on a quarterback keeper.
Late in the first half, quarterback Ryan Slaubaugh threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to tight end Cary Schaeffer, and Teets again added the two-point conversion. The 24-0 lead would stand the rest of the way, and Mid-Prairie improved to 2-1 on the season.
