Running back Terrhyn Jacoby?s touchdown run lifted the Mid-Prairie seventh-grade football team to a 12-6 win over visiting Wilton in its season-opener on Sept. 11.
With the score tied at 6-6 late in the game, Jacoby took a pitch from quarterback Ryan Slaubaugh and sprinted past several Beaver defenders on the 32-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion try failed, but the Golden Hawk defense held on to give Mid-Prairie the victory. Peyton Miller and Cary Schaefer led the Mid-Prairie defense in tackles.
Both teams scored in the first half of the contest. The Golden Hawks scored first when quarterback Karson Gingerich threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to receiver Eli Steckly. Wilton countered with a touchdown of its own, but also failed on the two-point conversion attempt.
The second half was a defensive battle until Jacoby scored in the closing minutes of the game.
