Golden Hawks, Cobras win in Week 4
Mid-Praire wins thriller, Sigourney Keota secures first victory of season

Week 4 football festivities saw Mid-Prairie continue its winning ways in dramatic fashion. Sigourney Keota made a statement just one week after a loss to the Golden Hawks and got in the win column for the first time in 2025.
Here is how the Union area small schools did in under the lights in Week 4.
No. 7 Mid-Prairie 21, Wilton 20
Mid-Prairie played spoiler on the road at Class 2A District 6 foe Wilton and survived a 14-point third quarter from the Beavers to hang on for the win. Despite being out gained 327-205 on offense, the Golden Hawks had two takeaways, including an interception by Carson Humphrey and a forced fumble by Ryan Henry.
Humphrey also had a receiving touchdown from Mid-Prairie quarterback Brooks Weber, who finished the game 14 of 24 for 115 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Senior Kaden Kos added a rushing touchdown.
The Golden Hawks (3-1, 1-0 2A-6) continue district play against West Liberty on Friday.
Sigourney Keota 41, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 0
After a tough start to the season that included losses to both Wilton and Mid-Prairie, Sigourney Keota bounced back in spectacular fashion with a blowout win over the Rockets in a Class 1A District 6 matchup.
Ike Molyneux was the star of the show for the Cobras with 19 carries for 192 yards and three touchdowns. Brayden Wood completed 4 of 8 passes, including a touchdown to Hunter Sellers. The Cobras defense held the Rockets to just 52 passing yards and had three takeaways, including an interception for John Berg.
Sigourney Keota (1-3, 1-0 1A-6) will be at Louisa-Muscatine for its next game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Louisa-Muscatine High School.
North Linn 54, Columbus 7
Columbus was unable to find its groove on offense in a non-district matchup against North Linn. The Wildcats held the Lynx to just 10 points in the second half, but North Linn’s 22 points in both the first and second quarter put the game away.
Trevor Phillips scored the lone touchdown for Columbus. It will look to bounce back against fellow Union side New London. The game will be played at Louisa-Muscatine High School at 7 p.m. Friday after it was moved from Columbus due to field conditions.
No. 8 Fremount-Mills 54, WACO 13
WACO suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of one of the best 8-player sides in the state. Fremont-Mills held WACO scoreless in the final two quarters of the non-district matchup.
Hayden Shelman had a strong day on the ground with 22 carries for 144 yards and two touchdowns. That performance was unable to offset a game where WACO was limited to just 85 yards passing.
The Warriors (3-1, 2-0 Class 8-player District 5) will look to rebound against 8-5 opponent Belle Plaine. The Warriors and Plainsmen will kickoff at 7 p.m. Friday.
Wayne 55, Winfield-Mt Union 24
Winfield-Mt Union was also defeated in an 8-player non-district game Friday. Quarterback Cody Milks’ 219 yards and touchdown through the air was offset by three intereceptions.
The Wolves still had a strong day on the ground with 150 yards and touchdowns from Milks and Kade Sweezer. Tayson Samuels had nine catches for 97 yards and a touchdown through the air.
Winfield-Mt Union faces another tough foe when it resumes 8-5 play against No. 4 Iowa Valley. The Huskies will host the Tigers at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Wapello 20, New London 12
The Tigers overcame a 12 point deficit to tie its game against Wapello going into the fourth quarter, but a quarter touchdown by the Indians in the final period gave them the Class A District 5 win.
Tigers quarterback London Franklin completed a touchdown pass to Israel Lemley. Cale Westerbeck had a productive day with 45 yards on offense, five takcles and an interception on defense and a punt return for a touchdown.
Danville 42, Van Buren County 0
The Warriors were blanked by a talented Danville outfit and fell to 0-2 in A-5 play. VBC was held to 16 yards passing and couldn’t find the end zone on the ground with 71 yards rushing.
Van Buren County (1-3, 0-2 A-5) will look to bounce back and play spoiler against Union side Pekin on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Tom Stone Field.
Regina Catholic 55, Cardinal 6
Cardinal is still looking for its first win of the season after a Classs 1A District 6 loss to first place Regina Catholic. Quarterback Alijah Frase completed 7 of 18 passes for 25 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Tyler Trueblood was on the receiving end of Cardinal’s lone score.
The Comets (0-4, 0-1 1A-6) will face Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont for its homecoming game Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
