Golden Hawks downed by No. 8 Mustangs in 2A playoffs
Mid-Prairie shutout by top 10 PCM in round of 16 clash

MONROE — The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team’s season came to an end on Friday in the second round of the 2A playoffs against the Mustangs of Prairie City Monroe, 36-0.
Neither team found the end zone in the first quarter as both squad’s defenses showed out.
However, the game was turned on its side in the second quarter as PCM scored a pair, the first coming from Class 2A’s leading rusher Adrien Robbins from 50 yards out and the second was a pass from Gavin VanGorp to 2A’s receiving touchdown leader Griffin Olson from 66 yards.
At the half, PCM held a 14-0 lead.
Mid-Prairie did all it could to get back into it.
Out of the half, the Golden Hawks ran 15 plays and went 55 yards to the Mustang red zone, but turned the ball over on downs and from then on out it was all PCM as they Mustangs scored on three straight drives.
On those drives, VanGorp hit Olson for the pair’s second touchdown of the evening from 39 yards out and then VanGorp notched a pair of touchdowns on the ground first from 25 yards and then two to end the scoring.
For Mid-Prairie, Hudson Ehrenfelt ran 38 times for 158 yards. Mid-Prairie quarterback Brady Weber went 8-for-19 with 35 yards passing. Cobi Hershberger, Dylan Henry and Ehrenfelt all had two catches. Hershberger led the Golden Hawk defense with 6.5 tackles.
With the loss, Mid-Prairie ends the season at 5-5.
PCM moves to 8-2 and advances to Friday’s 2A quarterfinals.
The Golden Hawks lose 12 seniors including Landon Sullivan, Landon Fox, Dylan Henry, Lukin Rediger, Jarron Thomas, Case Whetstine, Jack Griener, Kurt Schneider, Parker Ehrenfelt, Jackson Miller, Grady Miller and Beau Flynn.
