Golden Hawks drop 2 games

WELLMAN - The Mid-Prairie High School basketball teams hosted Williamsburg Monday in nonconference games.
The Golden Hawk girls dropped a one-point decision to the visiting Raiders, falling 48-47. Williamsburg controlled the first and last quarters, building a 21-10 lead in the first and outscoring the Golden Hawks 16-6 in the final quarter.
Mid-Prairie (3-6) held a 20-5 edge in the second quarter to lead 30-26 at halftime. The Hawks built the lead to 41-32 after the third quarter.
Maddie Nonnenmann came off the bench to lead the Hawks with 14 points on 6 of 10 field goals and 2 of 3 free throws. Myah Lugar went 4 of 9 from the field including 3 of 6 on treys to score 13 points. Lugar and Phelan Hostetler had seven rebounds apiece. Amara Jones produced seven points, four assists, three rebounds, five steals and a blocked shot.
The Mid-Prairie boys suffered a 59-41 loss to fall to 2-6 overall. The game was tied at 13 after the first quarter but the Golden Hawks trailed 30-24 at halftime and were outscored 19-7 in the third quarter. Both teams scored 10 points in the final quarter.
The Golden Hawks played at River Valley Conference foe Durant Tuesday and will play at West Liberty Friday.
