Golden Hawks finish 1-4 at home tourney
The Mid-Prairie volleyball team won its final match of the day to finish 1-4 at its home tournament on Saturday.
The Golden Hawks (6-13) were swept in their first four matches of the day. Marion defeated Mid-Prairie by scores of 21-18 and 21-8. The Mid-Prairie volleyball team won its final match of the day to finish 1-4 at its home tournament on Saturday.
The Golden Hawks (6-13) were swept in their first four matches of the day. Marion defeated Mid-Prairie by scores of 21-18 and 21-8. Iowa City Regina topped the Golden Hawks by scores of 21-14 and 21-15. Williamsburg defeated Mid-Prairie by scores of 21-18 and 21-13. And West Liberty, ranked third in Class 3A, swept the Golden Hawks by scores of 21-12 and 21-10.
But in their final match of the day, Mid-Prairie snapped its 13-match losing streak, sweeping Benton by scores of 21-16 and 21-18.
?It was great to end the day with a win,? Mid-Prairie head coach Melissa Stumpf said. ?The girls fought hard all day long and played their best against every team here. I am proud of the girls for bouncing back after every match and coming out ready to fight all day.?
Sophomore Taylor Kurtz spiked down 20 kills on the day to lead the Golden Hawks. Senior Jess Butters added 11 kills, and senior Mallory McArtor had eight on the day. Senior Kari Horesowsky dished out 25 assists, and junior Courtney Shalla had 20.
Sophomore Ashley Miller had a team-high 32 digs on the day, and McArtor had 30. Horesowsky had 23 digs at the tournament, and sophomore Ashley Sojka chipped in 14.
