Golden Hawks fly past Raiders

It was a busy weekend in boys high school basketball with one area team playing Monday.
Mid-Prairie 63, Williamsburg 40
The Golden Hawks won on the road Monday as Tom Butters scored 12 points on 6 of 7 field goals and pulled down eight boards.
Four Golden Hawks (Cale Robertson, Chaz Patterson, Dominic Pickard, Grant Boyse) scored nine points apiece in the non-conference victory. Ethan Trimpe added eight points.
Columbus 53, Winfield-Mt. Union 29
The Wildcats won the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division game on the road Friday. Eric Valdez piled up 24 points on 9 of 13 shooting and went 5 of 6 from the free throw line. He had six assists and four steals. Jaime Villegas grabbed 10 rebounds.
Columbus is 1-3 and hosts West Liberty Thursday.
Wapello 58, Highland 46
The Huskies lost the SEISC North road game Friday. Trey Lasek put up 20 points, five assists, five steals and four rebounds for the Huskies. Mason McFarland went 3 of 5 from 3-point land for his nine points. Zack Lasek had nine points and five rebounds. It was the first loss of the year in four games for Highland, which hosts Winfield-Mt. Union today.
Pekin 56, Iowa Mennonite 46
IMS lost Friday on the road to SEISC North foe Pekin.
Jeremy Niemeyer went 10 of 16 from the field for IMS, finishing with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Eli Ours added 11 points while Caleb Gingrich handed out five assists.
IMS is 202 and hosts Wapello today.
Keota 85, Iowa Valley 35
The Eagles won the South Iowa Cedar League game Friday behind JD Stout's 35 points.
Stout went 13 of 20 from the field including 6 of 9 from behind the 3-point line. Carson Sprouse and Brady Duwa combined for 11 assists.
Mid-Prairie 76, North Cedar 62
The Golden Hawks won at home Friday behind Butters' double-double.
Butters came off the bench to put up 13 points and take down 10 rebounds. Brad Tornow's seven assists helped Robertson score 14 points and Patterson 10. Robertson was 2 of 4 on 3-pointers. Pickard and Boyse each netted nine points.
MP is 3-2 and hosts Cascade Friday.
WACO 76, Keota 66
This non-conference game was played Saturday in Keota.
WACO had four players in double figures as the Warriors had 23 assists on 25 field goals. Colton Horak had seven helpers and Nik Coble five.
Elijah McGohan scored 16 points, Drew Kissell 13, Coble 12 and Gabe Reichenbach 10.
Coble corralled 20 rebounds.
JD Stout had 26 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead Keota in each of those categories. Luke Hammen scored 14 points, Austin Waterhouse 11 and Carson Sprouse 10.
Keota is 4-2 and hosts Belle Plaine today.
WACO 66, Central Lee 56
The Warriors won the SEISC South Division game at home Friday with 19 points and 12 rebounds from Coble.
Horak swiped 10 steals, was one of three players with five assists and scored eight points.
WACO is 4-1 and plays at Danville today.
Mid-Prairie 46, Williamsburg 34
Mid-Prairie's girls improved to 6-0 with the road non-conference win Monday.
The Golden Hawks led 12-4 after one quarter and 24-8 at the half.
Shae Becker was 8 of 10 from the field and 5 of 8 at the foul line for her 21 points. MP teammate Myah Lugar had 11 points and six rebounds. Maddie Nonnenmann had five boards, four assists and three blocks.
