CENTER POINT — Mid-Prairie softball’s season came to an end on Thursday night with a Class 3A Region 6 quarterfinal loss to the Pointers of Center Point-Urbana, 3-1.
The Golden Hawks started off on the right foot as Dakota Mitchell doubled to lead off the game and two batters later Sydney Knebel knocked her in with an RBI single to make it 1-0.
Despite the fast start, that would be Mid-Prairie’s lone run in the contest.
CPU knotted it up in the second as Mya Hillers drove in Tara Crowley.
The Pointers took control an inning later as Olivia Perez and Ella Simon each notched RBIs singles, scoring Hillers and Hailey Anderson to pull ahead 3-1.
The pair of runs proved to be enough to get the job done.
Mid-Prairie gave itself a shot at getting back into it in the fifth and sixth as the Golden Hawks put multiple runners on the base pads, but could never bring them around.
The Golden Hawks left 11 total runners on base in the loss, while CPU outhit Mid-Prairie 12-7.
Kadence Grout and Sydney Knebel both pitched for the Golden Hawks.
Dakota Mitchell led at the plate, reaching base all four times. Mitchell missed the cycle by a home run.
Knebel finished with the lone RBI.
Brylee Gearhart, Hannah Sellers and Grout each added one hit.
Mid-Prairie wraps its season at 16-21 and loses two seniors in Madeline Schrader and Molly Yoder.
