KALONA — Mid-Prairie’s Memorial Day holiday did not go as well as it could have as far as softball was concerned.
The Golden Hawks hosted Mount Vernon Monday for a nonconference game and lost 4-0. Mount Vernon’s Mustangs are ranked third in Class 3A.
The Mustangs had pitcher Jenna Sprague zoned in. She went through the Mid-Prairie lineup and struck out 14 of the 21 outs in the game. She did not walk or hit a batter, and the Mustangs did not commit an error.
Preventing a perfect game or even a no-hitter was Mid-Prairie’s Myah Lugar, who singled to become the only base runner of the game for the Golden Hawks.
Lugar pitched a complete game with three strikeouts for Mid-Prairie, and she did not walk or hit a batter. The Golden Hawks did not commit an error.
Lugar gave up five doubles and five singles and all four runs were earned.
Myah Lugar pitches in a game for Mid-Prairie in 2019. Monday, Lugar pitched a complete game without a walk and struck out three in a 4-0 loss to Class 3A's third-ranked Mount Vernon 's Mustangs and got the only Golden Hawk hit. (Doug Brenneman/Union)
