EDDYVILLE — Mid-Prairie boys’ basketball had its season ended on Thursday night in their Class 2A Region 5 bout with Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
The Golden Hawks were defeated by the Rockets 73-61.
Both teams came ready to play in the second round contest as two points or less is all that separated the two squads in quarter scoring between the first and third.
To Mid-Prairie’s demise, it never came out on top in any of the four quarters.
EBF looked as if they were going to run away with it early. The Rockets raced out to a 19-3 lead, but the Golden Hawks closed extremely well.
Mid-Prairie closed the first scoring 17 of the next 21 points, culminating in a 20-18 first quarter lead for EBF.
Things continued to stay tight heading into the break. The Golden Hawks and Rockets were separated by just one point in the second, 18-17. EBF held onto a 38-35 lead after 16 minutes of action.
Through the third it was still anyone’s game, but the Golden Hawks just couldn’t find away to get on top. The Rockets still led after three, 57-52.
The margins widened in the fourth after the Rockets closed on a 16-9 period.
Ace Peck led the Golden Hawks with 23 points. Bryce Henry added 21 points. Brady Weber scored seven. Brock Harland finished with four. Landon Kos, Hudson Ehrenfelt and Kurt Schneider all had two.
Mid-Prairie ends its season at 12-10.
