WELLMAN — Mid-Prairie’s high-powered offense continued to roll on Monday night, as the Golden Hawks hosted Mt. Pleasant in non-conference action.
The Golden Hawks hit the 60-point mark for the third-straight game, beating Mt. Pleasant 66-30.
“The last couple of weeks, we've done a better job of taking care of the basketball,” said Mid-Prairie head coach Danny Hershberger. “I think we've taken a few steps forward there, and our ball movement has been better in the last couple weeks.”
Mid-Prairie jumped on Mt. Pleasant early. The Golden Hawks led 16-4 after one quarter and 41-15 at halftime, cashing in on 12 first-half points by Izzy Kite, who nailed four 3-pointers in the opening quarters.
“She's been huge for us in moments this year,” Hersherberger said. “To see her have a night like tonight was really encouraging.”
Mid-Prairie continued to roll in the second half. The Golden Hawks outscored the Panthers 15-10 in the third and 10-5 in the fourth.
“They are so hard to defend because they have so many shooters,” said Mt. Pleasant head coach Curt Watson. “Some teams, you might have one or two shooters, but they have four or five girls who can knock the threes down, and then they have good post players too.”
Kite finished with 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting and 5-for-8 shooting from 3-point land to lead Mid-Prairie. Tessa Bombei finished with 11 points. Morgyn Bender finished with 10 points. Callie Huber went for six points, eight rebounds and seven blocked shots. Brylee Gearhart finished with six points. Brooklyn Schneider had five, and Jeorgia Evans scored two.
Abigail Shelangoski scored nine points to lead Mt. Pleasant. Abby Carthey finished with seven points. Addison Clark scored five points and pulled down seven rebounds. Paityn Ensminger had four. Myah Starr finished with three, and Keagyn Coleman ended with two.
One night later, Mid-Prairie rolled over Durant, 70-39, in River Valley action. Bender led the Golden Hawks with 21 points in that game. Schneider finished with 15 points. Bombei scored 11 points, and Huber finished with seven points and 10 rebounds.
Mid-Prairie moved to 13-3 after the wins. Mt. Pleasant is now 3-12.
