Golden Hawks roll on
No. 8 Mid-Prairie makes quick work of Saydel in regional opener

MID-PRAIRIE — The top seed in Class 3A Region 6 showed why it was just that in the regional tournament opener on Tuesday night.
The eighth-ranked (3A) Golden Hawks rolled over the Eagles 25-10, 25-4, 25-6, earning a spot in the regional semifinals in the process.
Callie Huber had a big night, leading Mid-Prairie with 10 klls in the win. Jovi Evans had eight kills and 24 assists.
Harper Pacha finished the night with seven kills. Paige Safly had five, and Katelyn Harland tallied four. Avery Helmuth dished out 12 assists.
The Mid-Prairie back line didn’t have to do much. The Golden Hawks needed to dig just 16 balls on the night, led by Reese Good, who finished with four.
Mid-Prairie had a big day serving the ball. The Golden Hawks served at a 94.5% efficiency and ginished the night with 19 aces.
Evans paced the team with six aces in the win. Helmuth and Dakota Mitchell each ended with four.
It was Mid-Prairie’s 30th win of the year. The Golden Hawks head into the regional semifinals at 30-10.
In the other semifinals in the bracket, PCM swept Chariton, Center-Point-Urbana swept West Marshall and Albia swept Centerville.
Mid-Prairie will host PCM (18-13) on Thursday night. The winner of that game will take on the winner of the other semifinal, which features Center Point-Urbana (25-9) hosting Albia (20-14). That game will be on Oct. 24.
