Mid-Prairie had its golf teams on two seperate courses Monday with the boys falling to River Valley Conference foe Iowa City Regina 222-228 but the girls defeating Regina 252-271.
The Golden Hawk girls had the meet medalist at Pleasant Valley Golf Course with Elliott Debler carding a 9-hole score of 60. Close behind was fellow freshman Madi Davidson's 62. Junior Madelyn Bender posted a 64 and freshman Gabi Robertson had a 66, Other scores were Claire Zirkelbach's 74, Alexa Huber's 76 and Madison Witthoft's 80. Only Bender had any meet experience. Although warm for March, the winds were blowing a good 40 miles per hour.
'This was such a good start for our young team that had a good share of nervousness that weighed a bit on them to be able to go to a tough course with tough weather conditions and come out with a win,” girls coach Tracy McArtor said. 'Once they got a couple holes under their belt, they all seemed to calm down.”
Mid-Prairie has another meet this week to use as a learning experience, then will pinpoint where focus is needed.
'We had a pretty good idea where most of our extra work will need to be, but it's nice to get this feedback,” McArtor said.
Both teams play Thursday at Columbus Junction with Washington.
The boys golfed at Kalona where Warren Scarff went low for the Golden Hawks, carding a 52 and Aiden Bush 53. Collin Miller shot a 59, Ben Mattes 64 and Lukin Rediger 65.
