Golf: New London, Keota, Hillcrest advance
Sectional round followed by districts Thursday

WINFIELD — The Class 1A sectional boys golf meet at Twin Lakes Friday was a bit of a runaway for the winners.
Clayton Phillips’ low round of 75 led New London to the low team score (341). The Tigers advance to the district round of play Thursday at Pleasant Valley in Iowa City.
Just a stroke separated Tigers Mason Shelledy and Ethan Streeter, with scores of 85 and 86, respectively. Wyatt Miller’s 95 clinched the scoring.
Luke Hammen’s third-place score of 85 helped Keota advance as well. Teammate Colten Clarahan posted a 87 with Max Johnson and Caden Sprouse, each shooting 93.
The home team Winfield-Mount Union Wolves finished a close third, but do not advance. However, WMU individuals Brady Loyd, Jacob Kongable and Isaac Schurr will all move on. Lloyd shot 83 as the runner-up. Kongable and Schuur each carded a 92. Bryce Wade’s 93 was the final score taken for the Wolves.
Tucker Bright was the Columbus low man with a 98. Robert Coil shot 104, Cole Storm 106 and Trenton Hoback 110.

1st district for Hillcrest since 2005
NORTH ENGLISH — As the home course of English Valleys, the sectional at Knoll Ridge golf course had three district qualifying teams advance to Pleasant Valley in Iowa City Thursday. English Valleys won with a 353 team score, North Cedar was second at 366 and Hillcrest was third with 367.
The Ravens were led by London Schrock’s 86, Jace Rempel’s 87, Luke Schrock’s 92 and Josiah Beachy’s 102. The 18-hole team total of 367 bested its 18-hole score last week at Central Lee by 24 strokes. Every Raven bested either their 9-hole or 18-hole total.
According to yearbook records, this is the first winning season since 2005 and first time advancing to districts since 2005.
