WAYLAND - The WACO volleyball team didn't let North Mahaska even sniff an upset in Monday night's regional quarterfinals. The Warriors swept their second-straight tournament game in a row, winning 25-17, 25-19, 25-14.
The Warriors had two players reach double-digit kills in the win. Morgan Graber led the way with 17 kills and Lona Farrier finished with 12.
Laney Graber dished out 37 assists in the win. Lela-Ann Fort had 18 digs. Aubri Garnsey finished with 12 digs, and Molly McLaughlin had 11.
WACO ended the night with seven blocks. Ellie Miles and Taylor Sammons finished with two apiece.
The Warriors had a decent day serving the ball, going 66-73 with five aces. Miles went 19-20 with three aces and both McLaughlin and Lindsey Roth had one each.
WACO has now won eight of their last 10 games, heading into a grudge match against No. 7 New London in the semifinals. On Thursday, Oct. 31, the Warriors and Tigers will look to create a little Halloween havoc for each other with eyes set on the regional final.
WACO took a big bite out of New London earlier this year in Wayland. On Oct. 8, the Warriors swept New London 25-22, 25-23, 25-21. Four days later, however, New London took their revenge, 21-16 and 21-10 in a tournament.
The winner of Thursday night's Henry County showdown will take on either No. 8 Holy Trinity or Seymour. Not one of the four teams left in Class 1A Region 8 has lost a postseason set.
New London's game with WACO will take place at 7 p.m. The game between HTC and Seymour will be at Van Buren High School and will start at 6 p.m.
