Sigourney-Keota 52 ? Columbus 7
In a head-to-head matchup of area teams, the Sigourney-Keota football team continued its dominance on the ground.
Avery Moore broke loose for 247 rushing yards in the contest, averaging 13.7 yards per carry, while picking up four touchdowns on the ground.
Luke Greiner had 111 yards and a pair of scores, while Will Magill picked up 42 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Overall, the Cobras notched 462 rushing yards in the victory, which saw them improve to 5-1, with their only loss coming to Regina.
In terms of the playoff picture for the Cobras, everything is lining up to see a big matchup with Wilton in the final week of the season, as the Cobras and Beavers each have one loss.
If everything holds to form, the two teams would be fighting for the second spot in the district in that contest, with the game being held in Sigourney. First up for the cobras is a contest against Louisa-Muscatine, who sits at 2-4 on the year.
For Columbus, they fell to 1-5 on the season, as they have now lost four-straight contests.
The Wildcats will be in Riverside on Friday night when they face off against Highland.
Highland 67 ? Van Buren 14
The Highland football team got back to the win column in a big way on Friday night, routing Van Buren 67-14.
The Huskies ended a three-game losing streak with the victory, and now sit at 3-3 with the victory, notching their first district victory of the year.
Jake Wood was strong through the air, completing six of his eight passes for 112 yards and a pair of scores, while rushing for 58 yards and one touchdown
Trey Lasek broke loose with seven rushes for 132 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns, while adding a touchdown reception of 8 yards.
Cole Adamson (100 yards rushing), Bill Burton (39 yards rushing) and Brady Hahn (51 yards rushing) all notched touchdowns on the ground, while Chase Rath and Mason McFarland had receiving touchdowns on the night.
Zane Arnold came in for relief of Wood and completed a pair of passes for 59 yards and a touchdown.
Highland will celebrate homecoming this week and host Columbus on Friday night, as they look to start a winning streak.
Lone Tree 69 ? WACO 13
The Warriors had a tough task at home, taking on the undefeated Lone Tree football team in 8-man action, and were outgained by nearly 300 yards on the day in the 69-13 loss.
Gabe Black and Colton Horak accounted for the pair of WACO scores on the night, as Horak picked up 169 rushing yards in the loss.
Defensively, Horak notched eight tackles to lead the Warriors.
Lone Tree was led by a pair of 100-yard rushers with Drake Hotz picking up 184 yards and three scores and Jovonte Squiers picking up 129 yards and four scores.
The Warriors will be on a bye week this week, as they opened the year up one week earlier than most teams, due to a scheduling conflict. They will resume in two weeks when they take on Easton Valley.
Williamsburg 46 ? Mid-Prairie 0
The offense struggled to get moving on Friday night for the Mid-Prairie football team, as they were shut out against the Raiders.
Williamsburg held Mid-Prairie?s offense to 81 rushing yards and 122 total yards on the night, as they were unable to get the zero off the scoreboard in the contest.
Ricky Vargas picked up 71 rushing yards to lead Mid-Prairie, while Karson Gingerich went 4-for-11 with 33 yards passing.
Defensively, Vargas led the team with seven tackles, while four other Hawks had at least five tackles.
Mid-Prairie will look to get a victory over Northeast on Friday night, when the Hawks travel to Goose Lake.
