COLUMBUS JUNCTION — After a three-week hiatus due to wet weather, racing resumed at the CJ Speedway located on the Louisa County Fairgrounds.
The headliner of the night was the 20-lap Mincer Ford IMCA Stock Car feature which saw 18 drivers take the initial green flag. The race was paced early by Stan O'Brian in his green and yellow No. 83. With three laps to go, Dustin Griffiths took the lead with a move in turn three using the high line. Griffiths raced to the checkers ahead of O’Brian and defending track champion Adam Bell. It was Griffiths’ first win this season.
The Stewart & Son Fuel IMCA Modified feature produced a win for CJ regular Dan (Stumpy) Brockert. Last year, Brockert produced one win in the Sportmod class and the move into Modifieds has been a good one. Brockert ran out front the entire race but was pressured late by Jarrett Brown. The 88 of Brown had taken the lead on a late race restart, but the start was waved off following a caution. Brockert held on to score the win ahead of Brown and Kurt Kile.
The Huston Brothers Trucking IMCA Sportmod feature saw a full field of 24 that Blaine Webster led early before being overtaken by the (Lil Speedster) Dylan VanWyk, who had started in the 12th position. VanWyk used several sliders on his way to the win over Webster and Colton Livezy.
Jake Benischek drove his No. 3 Midwest Towing Sport Compact to the 12-lap feature win, topping an 18-car starting field. Benischek advanced from the fourth row quickly and snared the lead from early leader Cody Staley and cruised to a comfortable win.
The CJ Speedway is home to one of the nation’s point leaders. Daniel Wauters scored his 14th win of the season in the Hobby Stock class and the win bolstered his CJ Speedway point lead. He currently is ranked third in national points. Wauters raced to the front from a fifth row start and took the lead late in the race for the win ahead of Seth Dickey and Jake Benischek.
Racing will continue Friday with hot laps scheduled to take the green flag at 7:15. All five weekly racing classes will be in action at the CJ Speedway.
