Hall of Fame Coach Tremmel dies

Legendary coach Dave Tremmel has died.

Tremmel was inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1996. Tremmel won a state championship for the Washington Demons boys basketball team in 1986. Washington also won the Sportsmanship Award at the state tournament that year.

Beside Washington, Tremmel also coached at Iowa City City High, Eddyville-Blakesburg, Williamsburg, Sigourney and Amana.

He has coached eight different Demon teams to the state tournament (1979, 86-first, 87, 88-third, 89, 90-third, 93, 94)

The 1986 Demon team finished 25-0 with a 67-65 victory over Maquoketa Valley (23-2).

Tremmell coached a total of 37 years and amassed a total record of 502 wins against 295 losses.
