A trio of area boys basketball players have been named All-State by the Iowa Print Sportswriter’s Association. The Union coverage area had three players named, one each in three different classes.
Mid-Prairie’s Carter Harmsen had the highest honor of any area player. The Golden Hawks senior made the second team in Class 2A.
Washington senior Kasen Bailey was named to the Class 3A third team. New London junior Blaise porter is a third-teamer in Class 1A.
Harmsen is coming off a fantastic senior season, in which he led his team with 19.6 points and 8.2 rebounds. Harmsen’s play was a key factor in an unbeaten Golden Hawk regular season and a trip to the Class 2A state tournament.
Bailey scored 15.2 points per game for the Demons this season and led the team with 4.6 assists.
Bailey’s senior leadership helped Washington secure the Southeast Conference title. It was the Demons’ third conference championship in a row.
Porter led New London with 17.5 points per game this season, and dished out 5.8 assists per game as well.
Porter led the Tigers to a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division championship. New London defeated Winfield-Mount Union in the SEISC title game in early February.
The 2022 ‘Mr. Basketball’ award went to Tamin Lipsey of Ames, an Iowa State University commit.
