The Mid-Prairie girls? golf team fell just short on Monday afternoon as they looked for a return trip to the state tournament.
In the first round of regionals, held at Indian Hills Golf and Country Club in Mediapolis, the Hawks took third with a team score of 439.
Williamsburg (366) and West Burlington, Notre Dame (418) took the first and second spots of the meet, and, as the top two teams, earned the opportunity to move on to the second round of regionals, held on Tuesday, May 26.
?This was surely not where we wanted the golf season to come to an end, but the kids did everything they could today,? Mid-Prairie girls? golf head coach Tracy McArtor said. ?To also come into a tournament with only four kids and finish the way they did was really great. They knew it was all up to their four scores and they did a great job. The good news is that they all return next year and will get another shot at state again.?
Allyson Wertz led the team with an 18-hole score of 95 on the day, finishing one stroke away from qualifying for the second round as an individual.
She was followed by Paige Slabaugh?s season-best score of 109, Lindsey Palmer?s 112 and Olivia Nisly?s 123.
The third-place finish ends the season for the Hawks, who went to the state meet in 2014.
