Hawks compete at Williamsburg
The season opened up for a pair of strong cross-country teams on Tuesday afternoon.

The season opened up for a pair of strong cross-country teams on Tuesday afternoon.
Mid-Prairie sent its boys? and girls? runners to Williamsburg to open the season, and came away with a pair of top-5 team finishes and three top-5 individual finishes on the afternoon.
The Golden Hawks? boys? team took second overall at the meet (finishing 12 points behind Mt. Pleasant) and was led by senior Ryan Errthum?s third-place finish and sophomore Floyd Evans? fifth-place finish.
Errthum ran a time of 17:32 in his first meet of the season, while Evans finished with a time of 17:43.
Following Evans was sophomore Peyton Miller (11th, 18:12) with sophomore Ben Sigler (30th, 18:56) and Marshal Teets (41st, 19:15) rounding out the team scoring.
Ben Stone finished in 43rd place with a time of 19:16, while Quinn Schmidt took 67th with a 20:03.
On the girls? side, a fourth-place finish from sophomore Anna Hostetler helped the Golden Hawks take fourth as a team at the meet.
Hostetler ran a 20:51 in the first official 5,000-meter race since the distance was changed statewide in the offseason.
Abby Tornow took 11th place with a 21:58, followed by Hannah Van Roekel who took 18th place with a 22:20.
Maddi Zahradnek (27th, 22:56) and Kessa Jones (28th, 22:58) rounded out the scoring for the Hawks, who finished 17 points behind meet-champion Williamsburg.
Greta Schmidt (31st, 23:13) and Moriah Brace (75th, 26:11) rounded out the varsity runners for Mid-Prairie at the meet.
Mid-Prairie will run at Keota for its next meet on Tuesday.
