The dominating defense showed up once again for the Mid-Prairie football team on Friday night.
It was homecoming as the No. 10 ranked Hawks hosted No. 15 West Burlington, and for the second straight game, Mid-Prairie posted a shutout, en route to a 28-0 victory.
Mid-Prairie improves to 4-0 on the year (2-0 in district play) with the win, and is currently led by a defense that has allowed 7.25 points per game, and only seven points in the past three games combined.
Led by senior Logan Bean (5.5 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss), the defense had nine athletes record at least two tackles in the contest, with junior Levi Duwa recording a team-high three tackles for a loss.
The strong defense also created four turnovers in the game, as senior Nolan Faselt, senior Paul Hawkbaker and junior Alex Yutzy each picked off a pass, while Duwa recovered a fumble.
Duwa and Faselt turned their turnovers into defensive touchdowns.
Offensively, Faselt led the team with 116 yards rushing, adding a 15-yard touchdown, while junior Ricky Vargas averaged 6.8 yards per carry for 81 yards and a touchdown.
Mid-Prairie will focus on its final non-district matchup of the season when they travel to take on Sigourney-Keota on Friday night. Last season, the Hawks won the matchup between the pair 38-20.
