Hawks drop three over busy weekend

The weekend wasn?t as kind to the Mid-Prairie softball team as they would have liked, but the Hawks saw themselves rise in the polls when all was said and done.
The No. 8 ranked Hawks (previously ranked No. 9) went 2-3 over the weekend after taking part in a weekend tournament at Iowa City.
The Hawks started the weekend off on Thursday in a conference game with Cascade (ranked No. 12 in 2A), where they fell 2-1.
The Hawks had eight hits in the game, but couldn?t put more runs across, with Emma Troyer scoring the lone run.
In the contest, Alex Rath and Chelsea Kral each had two hits.
In the tournament in Iowa City, the Hawks split their pair of Friday games with Williamsburg and Carlisle (ranked No. 3 in Class 4A).
Against Carlisle, the Hawks were locked in a pitchers? duel that went into eight innings.
Mid-Prairie only picked up three hits in the contest, two of which came from Lexi Duwa, as the team fell 1-0.
Emma Troyer pitched all eight innings in the contest, giving up six hits and striking out three.
Against Williamsburg, the Hawks got their offense going, putting up 13 hits, as they routed the Raiders 12-2.
Amber Kral led the way with a 3-for-5 game, including three runs scored, a double, triple and four RBIs.
Alex Rath scored three runs on three walks, while Ashley Sojka went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs.
Taylor Kurtz pitched six innings in the win, allowing six hits and one earned run, while Cassidy Rourke pitched a perfect seventh inning to close out the game.
On Saturday, the Hawks split another pair of games, falling to Class 4A No. 13 ranked Fairfield, and defeating Central Clinton.
Against Central Clinton, the Hawks again got their bats going, picking up 10 runs on 17 hits, as they picked up a 10-6 victory.
Amber Kral had another big game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a homerun and five RBIs, while Duwa went 4-for-4 at the plate and scored three runs.
Rath added three hits and three runs of her own in the game, while Kurtz pitched seven innings of seven-hit ball, allowing only three earned runs.
In the final game of the weekend against Fairfield, the Hawks picked up 10 more hits, but fell to the Trojans 10-5.
Duwa had three hits and two runs scored in the contest, while Rath joined her with a multi-hit game, scoring a run on a 2-for-4 performance.
The Hawks will prepare for a doubleheader at Durant on Monday before taking on Cedar Rapids Prairie on Wednesday.
