The Mid-Prairie volleyball team advanced to the bracket play of the River Valley Conference tournament last week, but ended up falling to West Liberty in the first round, ending the tournament short for the Hawks.
A pool-play victory over Durant propelled Mid-Prairie into Thursday?s bracket play, but a 21-11, 21-13 sweep by the Comets ended the regular season for the Hawks.
?We started off both games trading side outs but eventually we made more errors at unfortunate times,? Mid-Prairie head coach Cindi Miller said. ?You can?t allow a team like West Liberty to get momentum because they are hard to stop. We are proud that we made it to the second round and had a good win over Durant to get there.?
Freshman Jaedynn Evans led the team with eight kills in the tournament match, while junior Amanda Miller had eight digs. Junior Clarice Murphy had seven assists in the contest, followed by freshman Sami Miller?s five.
As a team, the Hawks converted 21-of-24 serves (87.5 percent).
Mid-Prairie will focus its attention on the regional playoffs, which begin next Monday for the Hawks.
The Hawks (15-15) will take on Mediapolis (26-10) in its first-round game, and the young Evans will be a key part of the team?s success.
Evans leads the team with 273 kills, 44 aces, and is third on the team with 237 digs.
Mid-Prairie?s playoff match against the Bullettes will be at Mediapolis, starting at 7 p.m.
