Hawks run at North Linn
There was stiff competition in North Linn this weekend as the Mid-Prairie cross-country teams gear up for postseason action.
The competition wasn?t enough to scare the Hawks, as the boys? team finished in third place (behind Monticello and Mt. Pleasant), while the girls? team finished in eighth, among a field of 10 state-ranked teams.

There was stiff competition in North Linn this weekend as the Mid-Prairie cross-country teams gear up for postseason action.
The competition wasn?t enough to scare the Hawks, as the boys? team finished in third place (behind Monticello and Mt. Pleasant), while the girls? team finished in eighth, among a field of 10 state-ranked teams.
The boys were led by sophomore Peyton Miller?s time of 16:57 over the 5,000-meter course. Miller?s time was good for fifth-place overall at the meet, while senior Ryan Errthum ran a 17:12 which put him in 12th.
Sophomore Floyd Evans followed Errthum with a 17:16 for 15th place, and junior Andrew Schwartz took 20th with a 17:22 and senior Ben Stone took 61st with an 18:16.
Quinn Schmidt finished in 62nd at the meet with an 18:18, while Marshal Teets finished with a 19:02 to take 79th.
The boys? team scored 113 points, while meet-champion Monticello had 69.
On the girls? side, sophomore Anna Hostetler took 14th-place overall to lead the Hawks, running a 20:04.
Senior Maddi Zahradnek ran a 20:56 for 35th place, while junior Greta Schmidt finished in 43rd overall with a 21:13. Hannah Van Roekel took 57th at the meet with a 21:40, while freshman Kessa Jones had a 21:46 to take 61st place.
Kate Cavanagh ran a 22:39 for 88th place, and Shelby Zahradnek had a 23:37 for 95th place to round out the team.
The Hawks had 210 points, while Monticello took the girls? title with 68.
Mid-Prairie will take part in the River Valley Conference meet on Thursday in Monticello, before taking on state qualifying at Columbus Junction on Oct. 22.
