The Mid-Prairie cross-country team took part in its conference meet on Thursday night, and finished with a pair of top-3 team finishes.
The boys? team took second place with 66 points at the River Valley Conference meet in Monticello, finishing behind only Monticello, who claimed the conference title with a score of 38.
The team was led by sophomore Peyton Miller, who finished in seventh place overall with a 17:32, while senior Ryan Errthum finished in eighth place with a 17:41.
Senior Luke Sigler finished in 11th with a 17:48, while sophomore Floyd Evans took 19th with an 18:08 and junior Andrew Schwartz rounded out the scoring with a 21st-place finish with a time of 18:15.
Junior Brent Foster finished in 27th place with a 19:32, while sophomore Marshal Teets finished in 29th with an 18:34 to round out the varsity runners.
?We are proud of the boys for coming away with a second-place finish, and we believe they are setting themselves up for a good postseason run,? Mid-Prairie assistant coach Aaron Fleming said. ?The boys showed some improvement over the last time we ran at Monticello back in September, with Brent Foster and Marshal Teets having the biggest drops in time by well over 30 seconds apiece.?
In the girls? portion of the meet, Mid-Prairie claimed a third-place team finish with a score of 115, finishing behind Cascade (54 points) and meet champion Monticello (42 points).
Leading the charge individually was sophomore Anna Hostetler, who ran a 20:57 to take 15th place at the meet, while senior Maddi Zahradnek took 21st with a 21:28.
Senior Hannah Van Roekel took 22nd with a 21:40, junior Greta Schmidt finished in 23rd with a 21:43, while freshman Kessa Jones took 34th with a 22:14 to round out the scoring.
Freshmen Kate Cavanaugh (52nd, 24:01) and Sophia Norman (61st, 24:54) rounded out the varsity team.
?The girls took on a big challenge in running against a very strong field that included four other ranked teams, and we are very proud of their third-place finish,? Fleming said. ?The Mid-Prairie girls had never beaten Regina in the history of the cross-country program, and when we lost to Regina by only 4 points on Saturday of last week our girls knew they had a chance to make history and they ran with a lot of motivation and took care of business, beating Regina by 32 points tonight.?
Mid-Prairie will prepare for state qualifying at Cedarcrest Country Club in Columbus Junction on Oct. 22, where they hope to send both the girls? and boys? teams to the state meet in Fort Dodge on Oct. 31.
