Hawks, Warriors wrestle at tournament
The Mid-Prairie and WACO wrestling teams were among the eight teams who competed at the Jeremy Fulk Classic wrestling tournament at Wapello on Saturday.
The Hawks came away with seven Top-3 finishes, while all five WACO competitors earned a place on the podium.

The Mid-Prairie and WACO wrestling teams were among the eight teams who competed at the Jeremy Fulk Classic wrestling tournament at Wapello on Saturday.
The Hawks came away with seven Top-3 finishes, while all five WACO competitors earned a place on the podium.
Results by weight class are below:
106 pounds: No area competitors
113: Mid-Prairie?s Eli Steckly advanced to the finals of his bracket by way of a bye and a 3-0 decision over Oskaloosa?s Talon Munger.
In the 113-pound championship, Steckly earned a win by pinfall over Eddyville-Blakesburg?s Tanner Rea, completing the pin in 4:34 to take the tournament title.
120: Mid-Prairie?s Duncan McCain received a bye in the quarterfinals, before taking on New London?s Javis Krieger, whom McCain pinned in 1:27.
McCain went on to the championship match where he defeated Oskaloosa?s Josh Diehl in a 14-2 major decision to take the title.
132: Mid-Prairie?s Miles Burrows earned a win by fall (5:07) in the quarterfinal round of the tournament, but fell to EBF?s Alex Hanna by fall (2:41) to move to the consolation round.
Burrows sneaked out a 5-4 decision over Oskaloosa?s Zaiyan Mamun to take third place.
WACO?s Christian Tennant fell to New London?s Julian Wikoff by pin (1:11) in the first round and moved to the fifth-place match, where he pinned Bob Wiskus of Centerville in 1:13.
138: WACO?s Joey Collier took fifth at the tournament after falling in his quarterfinal match to Louisa-Muscatine?s Austin Leopard by pinfall (0:59).
Collier received byes for the rest of the tournament to finish his day.
145: Mid-Prairie?s Elisha Sir-Louis took sixth at the tournament, falling to New London?s Reno Chiri by pinfall in 36 seconds in the quarterfinal round.
Sir-Louis earned a pinfall in the consolation semifinals to advance to the fifth-place match, where the Hawk fell by a pin.
152: WACO?s Adrian Unternahrer earned a fourth-place finish at the tournament, after earning an 8-5 decision victory in the quarterfinals.
Unternahrer fell by pin in the semifinals, and a late pin at 5:45 ended his day in the third-place match.
160: Mid-Prairie?s Hunter Huffman took fourth in the tournament, falling in the semifinals and third-place match by pinfalls.
170: Mid-Prairie had a pair of competitors at the 170-pound class, and both took top-3 spots.
Jason Tew won his semifinal in a pinfall, before falling in a 15-3 major decision in the championship match.
Ethan Danner took third in the class, falling by pin in the first round, before taking a 5-3 decision in the consolation round.
182: Cameron Tolander ran through the first two rounds with a bye and a 32-second pin in the semifinals.
In the championship match against Louisa-Muscatine?s Hunter Connor, Tolander took a 4-3 decision for the title.
David Varshanidze took fourth in the class for the Hawks, while Mid-Prairie?s Jose Juarez and WACO?s Alfredo De La Cruz met in the fifth-place match at the 182-pound class, with Juarez taking the victory with a pin at 1:25.
195: Mid-Prairie?s Visouth Peterschmidt used three pinfalls to run through his competition at the invitational, earning a pin at 1:06 in the quarterfinals, 0:51 in the semis and 3:03 in the finals.
220: Mid-Prairie?s Levi Duwa earned a bye and a pinfall at 1:37 to advance to the finals against Callan Tomlin of Oskaloosa on Saturday, but Tomlin got the better of Duwa in their match.
Tomlin earned a sudden victory by fall in the championship match to give Duwa second place.
285: WACO?s Cody Crawford was strong for the Warriors in the final weight class, earning pinfalls at 1:00 and 1:03 in the first two rounds on Saturday. In the championship match, Crawford earned a pin at 2:57 to take the title.
