DES MOINES ? Hanna Haynes could only choose one event at the state qualifier, but it looks like the Van Buren senior chose right.
Haynes, who suffered an injury late in the season, placed sixth in the Class 1A 100-meter hurdles Saturday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
?This is my favorite event,? she said.
After making state with a time of 16.39, Haynes improved in the state preliminary round with a 16.16 finish Friday. She then placed one higher in the finals Saturday with a time of 16.13.
?You can?t argue with sixth. You get a medal,? said Haynes.
Cassie Kingery of Winfield-Mount Union won the title in 15.54 seconds.
Haynes?s teammate Unity Daugherty also ran a pair of races at the state meet. After taking 23rd in the 3000-meter run Thursday, Daugherty came back and claimed an 18th-place finish in the 1500-run Friday. Daugherty beat six others in the race with a time of 5:18.94.
