For the third-straight football season, the Washington Demons will be honoring those who serve the country.
Next Friday, Sept. 16, when the Demons host Solon for a district football game, they will also be holding Hero?s Night, which celebrates anyone who is a veteran, current military, reserves, law enforcement, medical and rescue services and any other people who serve our community in the area of being a public servant.
There will be a meal held by RSVP, with the final day to reserve a spot being on Friday.
?I think hero?s night is a unique thing we do here in Washington,? Washington football head coach Garrison Carter said. ?As far as I know, we were one of the first ones doing it, and now it?s becoming a trend. That?s a cool thing. I?m glad it?s catching on. My two favorite things in the world are Demon football and America. The fact we can honor both in one night is a cool thing.?
Activities will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a Hero?s caravan from the Washington High School to Case Field, and afterward, they are invited to join the team on the field during the varsity warmups.
They are also invited to join the team in the locker room for the pregame talk, and out on the field for the national anthem, with special seating on the track for those who wish an up-close sight of the football game.
All questions and RSVP?s will be made to Kris Pierson at kpierson@washington.k12.ia.us.
