Hershey track meet in May

The Fairfield Park and Recreation Department, in cooperation with the high school track coaches and Fairfield Community School District, will be hosting the 2012 Hershey Youth Track and Field Meet at 5:30 p.m. May 22 at Fairfield High School.

Some of the events include long jump, throwing events, 50-meter dash, 100-meter run, 800-meter run, 1,600-meter run and various relay events.

Youth, ages 9-14, may compete in up to three events; children must compete in at least one field event or running event if participating in three. However, 9- through 12-year-olds can participate in a relay as well as the three events for a total of four events due to those age groups not being eligible to advance to the North American finals.

Participants also will have the opportunity to qualify for state and national competition. The state meet will be in Marshalltown on June 16. All first-place finishers in Fairfield automatically qualify for the state meet.
