High school football playoff pods

All seven Iowa high school football classes are into the Round of 16, which means each team is just two wins away from an appearance at the much sought after UNI-Dome for the state semifinals.

The Union area still has four teams left in the field. Two of them will be at home this Friday and two will be on the road.

In Class 8-Player, top-ranked Winfield-Mount Union will host Moravia, and No. 10 WACO will play No. 8 Don Bosco. The winners of those two games will play in the quarterfinals, meaning the Warriors and Wolves could have a rematch with the UNI-Dome on the line.

In Class 1A, No. 6 Sigourney-Keota draws a tough Dike-New Hartford team, which comes in ranked No. 7. D-NH beat Sigourney-Keota in the quarterfinals in 2021.

Top-ranked Grundy Center is also in Sigourney-Keota’s pod.

In Class 2A, Mid-Prairie travels to No. 8 Prairie City-Monroe. Second-ranked Van Meter is also in the Golden Hawks’ pod.
