Over a two-day stretch in the state of Iowa this weekend, 28 high school football games will take place. The winners of those 28 games will be able to say something not many get to say, that they earned a spot at the Dome.
The UNI-Dome is the dream of every high school football player. The high school football semifinals and finals in Cedar Falls are a marquee event in the state every year, and the Union area has two shots to get in.
No. 2 WACO has been sitting pretty this season, holding an 11-0 record, one of just three undefeated teams in Class 8-Player. The Warriors will welcome in Montezuma on Thursday night, after the Braves upset No. 5 Easton Valley on Friday night.
The Warriors and Braves will battle for one of four Class 8-Player spots, all of which will be decided on Thursday. Other games include No. 10 Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire against No. 1 Remsen St. Mary’s, Fremont-Mills at No. 4 Lenox and No. 6 Gladbrook-Reinbeck at No. 8 Newell-Fonda.
Sigourney-Keota will have quite the challenge in the Class 1A realm, as the Cobras take on No. 1 Van Meter on Friday night. Sigourney-Keota earned that right with a thrilling 20-14 overtime win over No. 9 Mediapolis. Van Meter blistered Woodward-Granger in its Round of 16 game.
Other games in Class 1A include Western Christian at No. 2 West Sioux, No. 8 MFL MarMac at West Branch and No. 7 Pella Christian at No. 4 Underwood.
